Certified Christian Counselor, Social Worker, and Educator
Upbringing
Christan D. McKnight, although born in Charleston South Carolina, considers herself a military brat and Columbia native, having resided in several different cities and states during her childhood. She is the oldest daughter of two siblings, to John and Amy DeLyons. She was raised in the church to a father who is a retired Chaplain Assistant in the US Army of 22 years, and mother, a choir director, musician, and praise and worship leader. Her mother would always tell her that there was a “calling on her life”, while growing up. This affirmation became a reality by divine intervention, when Christan met who is now her best friend and husband, Minister Lonzell McKnight, while he was helping the homeless though Flowers Ministries, Inc. From their beautiful union and dedication through acts of full-time ministry; God has been more than faithful to bless them with a baby girl, Abigael McKnight.
Education
Her education ranges from graduating high school with two diplomas, the local and regents, from the state of New York, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Benedict College, Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina’s College of Social Work, and most recently her Master of Arts and Doctorates in Christian Counseling from FMI Biblical Studies and Seminary.
Training
Her resume is also extensive in that she has served in the human service field for several years. She has operated in positions such as volunteering as a mentor for two years to counsel and visit two male juveniles who were incarcerated and later on released from the Department of Juvenile Justice, a medical technician for the geriatric population diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia, a mental health specialist/behavioral health assistant for mentally ill patients and counselor for group sessions at the Department of Mental Health, a house manager overseeing the management, staff retention, day to day operations, and finances to two community training homes that housed six women who had disabilities and special needs, interning at an alternative school with students who had behavioral and mental health issues, and an intern/registered lobbyist for one of the largest nonprofits in America, AARP - in SC, in which she was also selected to present a speech at a press conference near the statehouse as a part of their coalition to support Medicaid expansion in South Carolina. She has also authored and published her first book entitled Find Your Heart and Give it to God.
Ministry
Although she operated in various secular positions to help people in need; it was not until she made the transference of working for mammon and receiving a temporary reward, to commit to full-time ministry within Flowers Ministries, Inc., in hopes to gain the reward of eternal life through Jesus Christ. She learned that she can practice Social Work through Evangelism and Ministerial practices, because the Word of God in Matthew 25:40 says “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40, KJV). She currently serves in capacities of ministry such as a volunteer, Social Worker, Curriculum Specialist, college professor, assistant to the C.A.O./Dean of Academic Affairs, and in 2022 attained her Doctorates in Christian Counseling at FMI Biblical Studies and Seminary.
Scripture and Motto:
Her motto is, it took me a long time to realize what I already knew, and her favorite scripture comes out of Philippians 4:8-9, KJV which reads as thus: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
